I.N.V.A.S.I.O.N. by Gabriel Lim

Response:
I was drawn to this image due to its visual appeal. It looks like a scene straight out of a comic.

Description:
Like the title, this black and white image depicts a scene of an invasion, where Mario and friends are running away from the giant monster at behind. Drones surround the giant monster, which is blacked out along with the towers.

Analysis and Interpretation:
The use of scaling and creates great depth between the foreground and background. Repetition (of the drones and the tower) was effectively used to create harmony. Positive and negative space (blacked out monster and towers) was also effectively used to create perceived distance. Reading Gabriel's post, I found out that the monster was made of pumpkins. This marks a complete deviation from the meaning of the original image (from simple pumpkins to a crazed monster). As the monster is made up of multiple elements, blacking it out makes it look more coherent and continuous. Coupled with the low angle, the blackened monster looks scarier and more powerful as well.

Evaluation and Judgment:
The use of various skills acquired over the course of this semester (composition, positive and negative space, scaling, repetition, etc) is very effective in bringing out the meaning and effect of the final image. The black and white colour scheme also makes the image more cohorent.
