Positive and negative space: where the absence of information is still information.
Positive and negative space may be hard to create in art, but once achieved can produce really beautiful and thought-provoking results.

In my opinion, when positive and negative space is successfully incorporated into a design, it can have lasting impact on one's memory. Subtlety is key. When one is pushed to think of the different spaces present and the messages they represent, one is more likely to remember these designs/artworks/advertisements.
